  1. Why do you travel? Do your reasons align with Iyer’s essay? Please explain.

1A. I travel to learn about new places and get the experience that you can’t get from TV, which is similar to what Iyer said, “We travel, initially, to lose ourselves.”

  1. Iyer says, “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeing new places, but in seeing with new eyes.” What does this mean? How might this relate to you?

  1. Iyer says, “What gives value to travel is fear.” What does this mean? How might this relate to our journey?

5A. My favorite quote is “For seeing without feeling can obviously be uncaring; while feeling without seeing can be blind.” It is my favorite quote because it tells you that when you travel you should not see the surroundings as well as feel the experience.

Hello, my name is Scott Kehr and I am one of the students taking the 2011 Australia course and I am going to talk a like about myself. I am 15 years old, my favorite color is blue, and I am currently a student of Grayslake North High School, and I have taken this course to travel to Australia. My family and I can’t travel a lot over the Holiday because I am in Wrestling, also I have never been outside the country in my whole life so I am really excited about going to Australia. I want to go to Australia to see the sites and have a new experience in life.

I join the 2011 Australia course to experience the great wonder the course offers me. I original want to go because I wanted to see Australia and learn about its rich culture. I want to just learn about it because then I can just watch a documentary, I want to experience all the fun and excitement it has to offer. I want to learn about Australia that you can’t learn on TV.

While in the program I would like to learn more of Australia’s history and learn how to get a more better experience when traveling so I can have a better experience when traveling. I want to know about their rich food and I want to know the types of animals that live there and what makes them unite. What I would also like to see are the reefs they have and see the fish there.

What I am specifically interests is going scuba diving because it might be fun. I have never gone scuba diving before and that is why I am excited about it. but before we go to Australia we need to get some information about it.

It is important to get information about where you are going for many reasons, one, so you know what kinds of animals are there so you can be safe, two, to see some of the sites and not just get stuck in the hotel, and three, so we don’t look like tourists and get the must out of the experience. That is why you get information but be careful, try to be less a tourist and more of a traveler.
